I aged out of the kinship care branch of the Florida foster care system and worked my way, by grace, through college and two graduate degrees. I earned a BA in Physics from Wellesley College, an MFA in Creative Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts, and an MA studying the Classics at St. John’s College in Santa Fe. I also received a Lambda Literary Fellowship for Emerging LGBTQ Writers which allowed me to study with one of my literary heroes, Benjamin Alire Sáenz.

I’ve held jobs in nearly every industry from art modeling to cheesemongering to Computational Neuroscience researcher. I’ve spent time with the very rich and the very poor. I have a lot of compassion for people’s most intimate heartaches and foibles, especially my own.
